2003. CULTURAL OBJECTS I

Cultural objects that are intended to be a symbol of acceptance of the new cultures and, at the same time, hope to make us consider and question social aspects, like coexistence between different communities. So far, the Catalan and North African cultures have lived side by side in the city, but why be content with just that? Why don’t we celebrate the union, symbolic maybe, or not, between the two?. For all these reasons, through manipulation, transformation, traditions, utensils, a series of new objects has been created as the positive and expressive result of their juxtaposition and comparison.

Objects that were part of the exhibition Objetar, memoria y creación in the Design Spring of 2003, which took place in the Centre d’Art Santa Mònica in Barcelona.

2003. CULTURAL OBJECTS I

The project aims to unite two cultures, the Moroccan and the Catalan, and to give an ironic fun view of the present. The first objects are slippers that remind us of the espardenyes for dancing the sardana and, at the same time, the typically Berber item of footwear with its rolled-up toe.

The second object, in the same line, is a fusion of the well-known image of a bull and a camel. The two designs have a clear ideological connotation that points to the breakdown of frontiers and the eradication of cultural and/or religious conflicts.
